Coach blames WI batsmen
ABU DHABI (CMC):

WEST INDIES coach John Dyson on Friday blamed his batsmen for the team's 24-run defeat to Pakistan and called on the fringe players to make bigger contributions in run chases.

He was speaking following the Windies' loss in the second one-day international of the three-match series, which handed Pakistan the Fortune Trophy. The regional side lost the opening match on Wednesday by four wickets at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium. The third match is today at the same venue.

"When I look at the match, we just did not bat as well as we can," Dyson said. "We have got to keep working on improving in all areas - batting, bowling and fielding. We get into winning situations and we are not getting home. We need more players to contribute. We get good performances from the main contributors, but what I would love to see is some of the other players putting their hands up and taking us home."

Prolific lefthander Shivnarine Chanderpaul carved out his ninth one-day century in scoring an unbeaten 107 as the West Indies, chasing Pakistan's 232 from 49 overs, were bowled out for 208 off 48.5 overs.

Dyson praised the reliable Chanderpaul but lamented the little help he got from his counterparts.

"Shiv played another brilliant innings, but he needed to get help from the other end," the former Australian Test opener said. "Overall, the result today was disappointing. We did well to restrict then and we all knew this was a total we should have reached. They (Pakistan) bowled very well. They knew they had to bowl well to win."
