JAMAICA'S TEAM manager, Milton Henry, said yesterday their abandoned WICB Cup one-day game against the United States had been an extremely disappointing result.
Heavy early morning rain left the outfield waterlogged at the Everest Cricket Club and with seepage under the covers, umpires Vincent Bullen and Colin Alfred were forced to abandon play in the third-round encounter without a ball being bowled.
According to Henry, the latest result made it much harder for the defending champions now especially after losing their opening game to Barbados on Thursday.
"We are very frustrated with the playing conditions but what it really means is that we have to win our next two games in order for us to strengthen our chances of qualifying for the semi-finals," Henry pointed out. "We have two more matches against Canada and Guyana and we simply have to refocus and win those two engagements."
Jamaica would have been fancying their chances of beating the US, one of the weaker teams in the competition along with Canada.
Henry explained that even though the team was disappointed with the rained-out match, it was looking forward to its next meeting against Canada at Bourda tomorrow.
AT BLAIRMONT: The Windward Islands defeated Guyana by three wickets in their rain-affected, third-round match. The match was reduced to 27 overs a-side following a late start because of persistent rain.
Scores: GUYANA 170 off 26.2 overs (Travis Dowlin 59, Royston Crandon 54; Liam Sebastien 5-28, Nelon Pascal 4-33). WINDWARDS 174 for seven off 26.4 overs (Devon Smith 68, Darren Sammy 38, Johnson Charles 27; Veerasammy Permaul 2-21, Steven Jacobs 2-32).
AT UITVLUGT: Persistent rain and a wet outfield forced the abandonment of the match between Trinidad and Tobago and Canada.
